🏈 CFL 2026 β€” WEEK 1 PREVIEW

WE ARE BACK.

The wait is over. The CFL is back for the 2026 season, and Week 1 brings five matchups loaded with some new faces, revamped rosters, high-powered offenses, and plenty of questions. The road to the championship starts now, and if last season was any indication, anything can happen.

πŸ”₯ GAME 1 β€” INTERCEPTORS vs. ELITES

8:30 AM β€” Field 1, Alley Pond

Prediction: ELITES WIN

The first game of the 2026 season introduces a new era for Elites(a team that returns after a 5 year hiatus), with new quarterback Anas taking the reins. Expectations are high, and Week 1 provides the perfect opportunity for the new QB to make an immediate statement.

On the other side, Interceptors enter the season retooled but with the same lingering question that has followed the franchise: Will everyone actually show up?

Attendance has always been an issue for Coach Adam's squad, and that uncertainty makes the Interceptors one of the hardest teams to predict. Talent has never necessarily been the problem β€” availability has.

If Elites can establish an early rhythm behind Anas, expect them to take advantage of the Interceptors' uncertainty and start the season 1-0.

Pick: ELITES  36, 26

πŸ”₯ GAME 2 β€” WARRIORS vs. HUNTERS

9:30 AM β€” Field 1, Alley Pond

Prediction: WARRIORS WIN β€” CLOSE GAME

This could be one of the most competitive games of the morning.

The Warriors come in with a dangerous combination of Louis, Ezra and Greg, a trio capable of creating problems all over the field. If the Warriors can get those three clicking early, they have enough firepower to control the game.

But don't count out the Hunters.

Shu returns and is expected to make plenty of noise this season and could be the difference-maker in what projects to be a tight contest. The Hunters have enough athleticism to keep this one close from start to finish.

Ultimately, the Warriors' three-headed combination of Louis, Ezra and Greg gives them just enough to escape with the win.

Pick: WARRIORS  20-13

Projected feel: A one-score game that could come down to the final possession.

πŸ”₯ GAME 3 β€” MEAN MACHINE vs. NINERS

10:00 AM β€” Field 2, Alley Pond

Prediction: NINERS WIN β€” CONVINCINGLY

The Niners enter Week 1 looking like a team that is ready to make a statement.

And then there's Moody.

The Niners' offensive firepower appears to be packed and loaded, giving them the kind of firepower that can turn a competitive game into a runaway quickly.

For Mean Machine, there are considerably more questions.

The quarterback position remains questionable, and there are concerns on the defensive side of the ball as well. Against a Niners squad that appears ready to attack early and often, those weaknesses could become exposed.  Unless the Uddin bros and the newly acquired stars from Goonville can step up asap.

Look for the Niners to control the tempo, put points on the board and make a statement in Week 1.

Pick: NINERS β€” SOUNDLY  40-6

πŸ”₯ GAME 4 β€” CALIPHS vs. MAMAS BOYS

11:00 AM β€” Field 2, Alley Pond

Prediction: CALIPHS WIN

The Caliphs enter 2026 with perhaps the most intimidating offensive attack in the league.

At the center of it all is quarterback ZQ, whose powerful arm and ability to create big plays make him one of the quarterbacks to watch this season. And he won't be lacking weapons.

Receivers like Fahad give ZQ another explosive option, while Samad enters the season as a legitimate MVP candidate.

That's a lot of firepower for any defense to handle.

Mamas Boys will have their hands full trying to slow down an offense that could quickly establish itself as one of the league's best, especially after losing their 2 best players.  Safwan’s back is not that strong to carry the team. If ZQ gets comfortable early, this one could become a long morning for the defense.

Pick: CALIPHS  30-12

Player to Watch: Samad β€” MVP Watch

⭐ GAME OF THE WEEK

PLUTO vs. MPS

10:30 AM β€” Field 1, Alley Pond

Prediction: TOO CLOSE TO CALL

If you're looking for the game to watch in Week 1, this is it.

Pluto vs. MPS brings together two young, energetic teams with legitimate ambitions of making a deep playoff run. Neither squad is simply showing up to participate β€” both believe they can be playing meaningful football when the postseason arrives.

For Pluto, it starts with quarterback Shak, who will look to connect with his favorite targets Ammad and Toheed. That trio could be one of the most exciting combinations in the league this season.

MPS brings plenty of youth and energy of its own. Josh takes the helm at quarterback, surrounded by a talented receiving group featuring Tyler, Arjun and Evin.

Neither team has the veteran-heavy feel of some of the league's established contenders. What they do have is energy, athleticism and upside.

This should be a fast-paced, back-and-forth game with plenty of big plays. Both teams are favorites to go deep into the playoffs, making this more than just a Week 1 matchup β€” it could be an early preview of a postseason battle.

Pick: PLUTO, BY A HAIR, 27-26

Game of the Week. Must Watch.

The Bottom Line

We're back.

New quarterbacks. New rosters. New contenders. Same intensity.

Week 1 at Alley Pond kicks off the 2026 CFL season, and while five teams will leave with a win, the real story begins with the question every team has to answer:

Who is ready to make a championship run?

Let the season begin.
