Final Power Rankings
1-Tower 5-1
This team dropped their first game last week but it wasn’t a full squad. Oliver has looked like the clear cut best player and the team surrounding him fits well. Riz is a beast down low and can score and play big in the middle. Afridi is a young guy who has shown he can score and the team chemistry is unmatched. They are the team to beat.
2-Panthers 5-3
Hear me out here. By record this team doesn’t belong here, there are a couple of teams who have won more but the Panthers are top tier. Muzz has collected nine players who can all ball. How did the commissioner let this happen? Yusuf can score in bunches and even on days when he is off there are plenty of guys to pick up the slack. Haseeb and Muzz both have not been themselves lately and yet they are out here winning games by thirty! It’s gonna be tough to get through these guys come playoffs.
3-Phantoms 6-2
Qasim has led a consistent team all year. Led by the back court of Hugo and Zobi giving a great 1-2 punch on both offense and defense these guys can make a run if their shots are falling. If there is a question about them it’s that they only have 6 guys. We have seen in the playoffs depth plays a role, can they get it done with Uzair, Hamza and Qasim having to play almost the whole game. We’ll see.
4-Legend Killers 6-2
The only team to take down Tower, Zia knows how to win in Retro. It’s a team that is hard nosed and gets it done in multiple ways. Humair is a rebounding and passing machine putting up at least 6 assists in the last three games. Fahad and Talha complete the literal big three making up the tallest front court in the league. Again last week someone else steps up to make big shots. One week it’s Faizan the next it might be Asim or Bilal. You can never count out a Zia led squad.
5-Knights 5-3
Ismail is one of my favorite players in the league. He has the ultimate green light and used it to down the commish’s team last week going off in the second half hitting DEEP threes to pull away and secure a way out of the play in. Amged and Hassan are a great combo complimenting each other really well. The rest of the team is just smart. Mohsin, Abuzar, and Mutasem all do their jobs and are always in the right places. Just remember last time Hassan was a Knight they made the finals.
6-Primetime 4-4
After a great 4-1 start Moodys team ended the season losing three straight to finish the season at .500. It is probably more of a product of attendance than performance as they have rarely had their full squad at a game. It starts with Ali and Imran getting it going then the rest of the team doing their job to play solid defense and hitting shots. There was some in fighting towards the end of last week’s game and hopefully it won’t carry over to the playoffs.
7-Bricklayers 2-6
This team is getting healthy and look dangerous going into the play in games. Umer and Ferukh are a solid duo and take turns doing their work on offense. You throw in Naveed and Atif who you can set your watch to with how consistent they are and you have a dangerous team who every high seed probably wants to avoid. Captain Imran and his buttery mid range jumper combined with the gritty play of Hyder leads to Bricklayers being the stalking horse of this postseason.
8- La Familia 4-4
Yusuf’s team hasn’t changed all season. They are a team that runs on a system that doesn’t require one player to win a game. From Zakey to Asif to Yusuf and Yaseen everyone on the team has played a hand at winning a game this year. That is both the positive and negative of the team come playoff time, can a system where you can’t point to the one guy who can go get you a bucket succeed when it comes down to a close situation. We will find out.
9-A Team 1-7
These next three teams are all in the same tier. We start with A Team because they have a pedigree. They have been in the big game before having just taken down the championship last year. That team is a far cry from the one running the floor this season. Not much of the personnel has changed but the product on the court is another thing altogether. I said this before, but it is mostly Faizan chucking up shots and Dev waiting for the ball down low while sometimes getting it, and sometimes not. Adding Raheel who is doing his best coaching impression hasn’t helped. Don’t expect a repeat appearance for Shah and Co.
10-All Day 2-6
This team has some upside. They have shown offensive firepower and if the past Ali can show up we know he can put up 30 any game. Syed and Aqib are having great seasons while Tan is trying to come off a big injury. Their biggest weakness is having no size in the middle and that will be a hard thing to overcome. One thing this team has always done is put up a fight come playoff time so the commish better not go into their matchup looking ahead.
11-Tigers 3-5
This team is straight disappointing. They are perennially near the top of the standings but this season everything has gone downhill. Ruhel finally had a big game in their regular season finale but he is for sure having his worst season. Attendance problems have also been a problem but rare non Astoria pickups Ali Mian and Hammad have played big parts in the teams few wins. We will see if Jabar can right the ship and make a playoff run but it won’t be easy.
