Hassib vs Hyder
What a great summer draft season as always. Exciting games and exciting teams, every season brings something new. Yet some things in this finals are familiar. The two catalysts of last year’s championship winning team Talha and Samad face off again as they will attempt to stop each other from repeating. We have opposing teammates from the Retro regular season champion Panthers in Hassib on one side and cousins Abdullah and Zaid on the other. We have the makings of a phenomenal back and forth matchup that, based on the players involved, may get feisty. Let’s analyze the matchups.
Starters
Samad vs Zaid
Honestly two guys who at their foundation are similar. Pesky as heck on defense and want to set up teammates before looking to score. Zaid has shown flashes where he can score 20 and be a key contributor but he tends to disappear more often than show up as a scorer. Samad is one of, if not the best floor general in the draft. Even when his shot isn’t falling he gets everyone involved and makes up for it on the other end of the floor. Clear advantage.
Edge: Hassib
Daud vs Fahad
Daud is a long time crescent vet and all around great guy. He can slow the ball down as a handler and set things up and has been known to make some important threes in big games for this teams. Fahad actually has a similar role on his team though he is bigger and uses his size to go to the rack more in transition. Either one of these guys can catch fire and key a big run but Fahad has the youth on his side here.
Edge: Hyder
Talha vs Ruhel
Talha Shanawaz is the do it all guy in Retro. He can score, pass and defend. He has even made a few free throws. A triple double watch every game there is not that isn’t known about the long time crescent player. He’s a stud. Ruhel is the spark behind this team. You let him get going and the game is over. Just ask Amrit, last week he drained five threes in the second half to help them get and keep the lead. He is a great player but in the end he can’t matchup with Talha.
Edge: Bricklayers
Umair vs Abdullah
Umair is absolutely the steal of the draft. A guy not taken in the first or second round he has put up an amazing scoring season. He hits tough bucket after tough bucket for this team both from inside the paint to behind the three. He is no slouch on defense either and uses some good old school tactics to annoy his opponents. Abdullah is coming off a finals mvp and has shown he isn’t scared of the big moment. His role on this team is hitting shots and playing tough defense. That will be a tall task for him in these finals and we don’t know if that’s gonna be possible for him with the season Umair is having.
Edge: Hassib
Nick vs Hassib
Last time I said Hassib would get dominated in a matchup he proved me wrong. Let’s hope he can do it again. I don’t know how he guards Nick. Nick can hit from the perimeter and has 15 years and a number of pounds less on our favorite gentle giant. He will counter act by hitting some threes of his own and trying to bully him down low. There are two different styles and Hassib just won a chip so we’ll call this a wash.
Bench
Hyder will roll out himself and Zia off the bench. They will each knock down a three or two and be a pesky defender in their time. Hassib has Akif, Hammad and Atif. All great shooters and will provide great minutes. The difference here is Atif. Atif is one of the highest iq players the league has and will use his defensive prowess to create havoc and get out on the other end.
Edge: Hassib
We expect a back and forth game and like happened last week Hassib will pull away using their depth and talent to keep Hyder’s repeat bid at bay.
