CFL All-Pro Team

OFFENSE
QB
ZQ (Team: Caliphs)

When ZQ was let into CFL Retro football, it was with the stipulation that he could only play quarterback. This was supposed to limit his use of his athletic ability and diminish his value. Boy was that wrong! ZQ has led his team to the best offense in the league, with his team never scoring less than 40 points in any game this season and leading the league is scoring per game! If you heard that coming in, you would think they are breezing through the competition. But that has not been the case- with 100% of the blame lying on that GOD AWFUL defense. With respect, this defense can make the 1976 Bucs look like the GOAT offense (you should look up how much this team scored per game, it will shock you!). If this team is going to make any noise in the playoffs, they will need to hope ZQ has the ball last in each playoff game they play in.
2nd Team: Moody (Team: Niners)
Honorable Mention: Ezra

Receivers:
Ruhel (Team: Niners)

The ageless wonder himself. Well, I don’t actually know how old Ruhel is but I’m guessing he’s a little older but the (game) numbers don’t lie! One of the best receivers coming into the season, Ruhel has put up monster numbers for the Niners, ending the season with double digit touchdowns. He has also produced on the other side of the field as well (nice pick-6 in the season finale!) but we’ll only focus on the offensive side of the field here. Moody will need to feed Ruhel the ball constantly for this team to get far in the playoffs.
Greg /Toheed (Team: Warriors)
Ok, this was cheating because I’m not sure which of these 2 players I like the best (as far being a receiver). They both bring a different type of ability on the field. Greg is the Megatron of the league. There is a very chance if he’s involved in a jump ball, somebody is going to get “MOSS’ed”. The only way to NOT get Greg the ball is to overthrow him (which seems to happen a lot this year). Toheed is one of the premier speed demons and route runners of the league. He is seemingly always open and according to this writer, one of the best overall players in the league. With that being said, this team has had too many lapses of inconsistency on offense this year which begs the question: is their QB struggling OR are the QB and receivers not on the same page?
Zian (Team: Caliphs)
On paper, Zian is the prototypical wideout. He’s tall, skinny, and fast. He can win any jump ball. He has been the go-to option for ZQ all season. The only complaint I have for him is why he isn’t used for extra point conversions. For one of the teams with the lowest PAT conversion %, this team could really use Zian wingspan to gather in a few extra points per game which could be the difference in a playoff game.
2nd Team: Fahad (Team: Caliphs), Sal (Team: Caliphs), Louis (Team: Warriors)
Honorable Mention: Zian (Team: Caliphs), Owais Wali (Team: Imaan), Evin (Team: MPS)

DEFENSE
Sal (Team: Interceptorz)

Sal is, as the young kids say, HIM. This man does it all: He calls out the defense for his team while still being at the top of the league in INTs and passes broken up. This team has the most shutdown defense in the league, and Sal is the biggest reason why.
Louis (Team: Warriors)
It seemed like the game was only being played on one side of the field on defense for most of the season for the Warriors. That’s because any time the ball was thrown in Louis’s vicinity, chances are it was going to go the other way. After seeing that for the first couple of games, it seems like QBs wisened up and decided to pick on the other side of the field. In fact, one of his opponents told me Louis spends more time talking to the ref than playing because he knows he won’t get challenged.

Superlatives
Best Shot-Caller
Pulak (Team: Imaan)

One of the OGs of the league. He has just the right amount of A-hole in him to lead without it coming off as too much.
Most Likely to fight his own receiver
Ezra (Team: Warriors)
Ezra and his receivers have had words with each other multiple times this season. This writer thinks he does it on purpose to get himself going.
Hidden Gem(s)
Arjun (Team: MPS)

Arjun can be a game changing player…when chances arise. His interception off Sal in the last game of the season was one of the most spectacular plays of the season but of course, the team did not end up making it worth it making it just another play that could’ve been what? Game-changing!
Owais Wali (Team: Imaan)
Many times, Owais has made a play on the field and asked a single question: “when is the writer going to put my name in the prediction?” Well, here’s your write up! Owais is an excellent player on both sides of the field. The only reason he might not get called out on a weekly basis is because, well…he’s quiet? You might be a standout performer, but we here at CFL Journalism need more spice to make you a household name. With that being said, back to the dungeon for you!
Best Young Stud
Andrew (Team: Niners)

Moody’s very own nephew is our best young stud. He has played well this year and made sure to let teams know not to take him lightly anymore. Otherwise, “the kid” might just end up burning you.
Unsung Hero
Hasan (Team: Botz)

It has mostly been a season to forget for the Botz. They haven’t had much to cheer about as they have lost a bunch of not so close games. Their lone bright spot this season was Hasan, who showed up every week and did his best. He made a play to help the team almost every week, whether it was a big touchdown or a key pick.
MVP and DMVP
I think both of these awards come down to 2 people: Sal from Interceptorz and Louis from Warriors. Both these guys play both sides of the ball and will play a vital role if their teams get far in the postseason. For both awards, I am leaning ever so slightly towards…SAL. Louis is having a fantastic season but whether its on his own accord or not, there are too many periods throughout the game where he is left looking to make a play and he is either missed OR the ball is going to another one of his stud receiver teammates. For the Interceptorz, the gameplan runs through Sal on both sides of the field. He is the deep threat on offense and the best defender on the other side. For the smallest of margins, Sal is my MVP.
