The Retro division always makes for fun games. Just this past week we had an absolute barn burner that divided family and friends and ended in a giant upset. It has been half the season so let's break down how the teams stack up.
1. Every Other
Record: 3-0
Points For: 26
Points Against: 21.7
It is not surprising that a solid quarterback in the elite division makes for an elite one on the Retro side. Shak has won a championship and carries that swagger with him to every Retro game. He has a lot of receivers he shares with his Pluto squad so the chemistry is unmatched. They can score in bunches and have young athletes all around the field. Who allowed this youth? They are the leaders in the clubhouse at the halfway mark.
2. Interceptors
Record: 3-1
Points For: 34.5
Points Against: 26.2
Captain Adam’s approach in forming this team is obvious. You must be a giant to play for him. Just kidding of course but he does have a couple of giants running down the field including the unstoppable Greg who won’t be breaking any land speed record but good luck trying to snatch the ball from him. We think whether Ezra or Sal is the qb going forward may make a difference in the end but this is a solid team anyway with lots of great pieces.
3. Niners
Record: 2-2
Points For: 32.2
Points Against: 32
Oh boy was captain Moody hot at his team after last week’s loss. He was tearing into some of his young guys on defense, seemingly fed up with the missed flags and blown assignments. Niners may have the most potent offense in the league. Ruhel is an early top MVP candidate, add in speedsters like Qasim and size with Uzair and Moe that might be the top receiver group in Retro. Shine has played excellent football so it is really just the defense holding them back. Moody should lean on veteran Naji to get them on track and they have a legit shot at taking home the title.
4. The Botz
Record: 1-3
Points For: 30.2
Points Against: 32.5
What a game! The Botz pulled off the biggest upset of the season and got it on tape. Aqib turned back the clock and was an absolute menace all over the field on both sides. This team is feisty and fun, they may also be good. Do not let the record fool you every game this team has played has been competitive. Syed leading a team at quarterback was questionable but he has shown he can make the throws and his receivers wont blow you away with talent but they all know how to do their job and most of all they all compete to the very last whistle. Do not sleep on the Botz.
5. Imaan
Record: 1-4
Points For: 21.6
Points Against: 29.2
Before we bash them shoutout to Imaan for stopping the scoring streak of Farooq, the whole league thanks you. This team has problems at the most important position in the game, quarterback. We thought we would see Omar Salama back there but he has become the primary receiver on this team and is doing great on both sides of the ball. Guys like Owais and Isa are good and should help this team score a lot of points but it does not seem to be happening. Captain Faiq has to figure it out or there will be a lot more losses for Imaan coming up.
